Abstract: The gradient of butt welded joints with different thickness by geometric means was calculated. According to the calculated gradient, the angle of probe with available K value chosen to ensure enough scan scope, and the relationship between the gradient and simple distance were analyzed with probe being lying in different locations. The accurate location for defect was realized.
