Abstract: The correlation between acoustic emission testing characteristics and composite solid propellant fracture toughness was investigated, based on the study of cracking process of the propellant by using advanced acoustic emission experiment system and smooth tensile specimens with prefabricated cracks. Experimental results showed that the specimens emitted strong signals when unstable crack extension started.
