Ultrasonic and Radiographic Testing of Metal Matrix Composites

This paper describes the testing methods and results with a micro-computerized ultrasonic C-scan imaging system and the soft X-ray radiography for silicon-carbide reinforced aluminium matrix composite. The testing for a number of sheets, tubes, conical sleeves and the micrographic analysis results of defect show that many defects can be availably detected by using the reflecting plate ultrasonic C-scan and soft X-ray radiographic testing methods.
