    Testing Ability of Infrared Thermographic Nondestructive Testing in Honeycomb Sandwich Structure Composite

    • Honeycomb sandwich structure composite samples with artificial defects were designed and experiments were carried out on them in this paper. Ability of infrared flash thermography testing on GFRP skins and GFRP/NOMEX honeycomb panels was studied. The results show that delaminations with depth 2 mm, diameter 6 mm and diameter 10 mm in GFRP skins were detected. Disbond areas with diameter 6 mm were found in GFRP/NOMEX honeycomb panels with GFRP skin thickness 1 mm. Disbond areas with diameter 10 mm were found in GFRP/NOMEX honeycomb panels with GFRP skin thickness 2 mm.
