Nondestructive Testing for FRP Skin Paper Honeycomb Material

    • Non-destructive testing for FRP(fiber reinforced plastics) paper honeycomb is necessary since the delamination in skin and debonding defects between skin and honeycomb core will directly affect the mechanical properties and performances of the honeycomb structure. Infrared thermography system and ultrasonic C-scan system were used to detect the skin quality and the quality of bonding. Comparing two methods, infrared thermography testing process was fast, efficient and feasible, and was able to detect all the defects, but ultrasonic C-scan system can detect all debonding defects and part delamination. In addition, the honeycomb structure was more clearly.
