X-ray inspection of power turbine transmission shaft seal ring

Abstract
The deformation or detachment of the sealing ring in the power turbine drive shaft assembly can cause abnormal power indication during engine testing, commissioning, and flight testing. The density difference between the rubber material and the steel substrate of the inner sealing ring in the power turbine drive shaft assembly is significant, leading to blurred radiographic images and making evaluation difficult. This article analyzed the improvement plan for image quality from a theoretical perspective based on the internal structure and material density characteristics of the power turbine drove shaft assembly. Through a series of parameters such as changing the focus, focal length, film type, and exposure of the radiation source, a radiographic test was conducted. According to the principle of "small voltage, large focal length, small focus, short time, and small particle size film", the best radiographic parameters were determined by taking the sealing ring inside the power turbine drive shaft assembly as the test object. The results showed that under this radiographic parameter, it could effectively evaluate the sealing ring appearance status of the power turbine drive shaft assembly, helping to obtain the deformation or detachment of the sealing ring without damaging the parts.
