Local damage detection method of I-shaped steel beams based on piezoelectric impedance technique

Abstract
The piezoelectric impedance signals are influenced by the coupling effects of damage locations and local damage severities. This study presented an effective frequency range-based decoupling analysis method for damage localization and local damage severity estimation. Multi-physics finite element simulations and experimental validations were conducted on an I-shaped steel beam for crack detection. The damage localization and local damage severity estimation errors were less than 3% and 5%, respectively.
