Cause analysis of parallel linear magnetic traces on a bolt forging

The magnetic traces were observed on a bolt forging during magnetic particle testing. The magnetic traces were analyzed by metallographic observation, energy spectrum analysis and X-ray diffraction analysis. The magnetic traces were non-relevant indication of the magnetic permeability difference of the material caused by the microsegregation of the raw material.
