Cable Defects Detecting Based on the Eccentric Angle Transillumination of X-Ray Imaging System

    • In this paper, the difficult to detect cable internal damage problem is solved by the use of X-ray digital imaging system (hereinafter referred to as DR) through a suitable eccentric angle lens according to the cable damage and by using software to process the composite image to determine the damage characteristics. By simulating different site design features of cable damage, an appropriate eccentric angle transillumination technology experiment for the different characteristics of cable damage analysis was undertaken. By the comparison with the actual defect size, it is found that the DR based eccentric angle cable defect detection can effectively improve the cable damage detection accuracy for the practical application of the cable internal damage characteristics analysis and can offer a reliable basis for post-maintenance.
