Influence of Surface Roughness on EMAT Detection of Round Steel

Abstract
The equipment structure, its function, main performance parameters and basic principles of electromagnetic ultrasonic detector for round steel inspection were introduced. Aiming at false alarm of EMAT detection, the influence of surface roughness was tested and analyzed. Results showed that the surface roughness was the direct cause of false alarm. In order to reduce the rate of false alarm, the method of reducing surface roughness and detection sensitivity should be taken.
