Damage Detection Based on Lamb Wave and Its Applications in the Structure Health Monitoring of Wind Turbine Blades

    • Renewable energy is one of the most efficient and effective ways to deal with global warming and energy crisis.Wind energy as one of such renewable energy alternatives has seen a substantial growth.Blades, one of the key components of wind turbine system, are very sensitive to damage.Specific environmental conditions together with large costs of their failure result in intensive research that aims to ensure their safe and long-time operation. An interesting approach used to increase the strength and durability of wind turbine blades comes from the application of various structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques.A very promising SHM technique used nowadays for the purpose is the technique based on the propagation of guided Lamb waves and their coupled interaction with damage. This paper details the damage detection method based on Lamb wave and the research status of structural health monitoring (SHM) for wind turbine blades based on Lamb wave, and finally proposes desirable developments for further advancement of this field.
